Oceans, seas, rivers and lakes regulate the climate, provide food and livelihoods, and support extraordinary biodiversity. SDG 14 aims to reduce marine pollution, protect aquatic ecosystems, end overfishing and increase scientific knowledge of the world's waters.
• Prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, especially from land-based activities.
• Sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems.
• End overfishing and destructive fishing practices.
• Increase scientific knowledge and research capacity in ocean health.
Although our region is inland, the health of oceans depends on what happens upstream. The Center studies rivers, lakes and freshwater ecosystems, fights plastic pollution, and raises awareness of our connection to global waters.
• Join river and lake clean-up activities.
• Reduce plastic use in daily life.
• Research freshwater biodiversity and pollution.
